Course description:

Because oil paint is the easiest of all paints to use, it is an ideal medium for complete beginners. Elizabeth will show you how to paint a simple landscape, then talk you through an original painting of your own, while explaining some of the strange terminology used by artists. Join in lively discussions about art and life; find out what words like grisaille and chiaroscuro really mean. Practise colour mixing, composition, tonal painting and some basic colour theory in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. And most importantly, remember the Golden Rule - Have fun!

You will need:

notebook and pen pad of oil painting paper - A2 size canvas board - at least 40cm x 60cm (optional) 4 tubes oil paint - red, blue, yellow and white oil painting brushes - flat - sizes 12, 8, 4, 2 palette palette knife a roll of masking tape screw-top jars, small tins etc turpentine or substitute - at least 1 litre plenty of rags
